Terms of Service

The short version

The short version: you must be 18+, use your real identity, and treat people well. Enso is a platform that helps people organize their own meetups — we don’t run, supervise or insure events, and meeting people in person is at your own risk. We can suspend accounts that break the rules. These terms are governed by Ontario law and nothing in them takes away rights you have under Ontario consumer protection law.

1. These Terms & Who Can Use Enso

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Enso ("Enso", "we", "us") governing your use of the Enso app and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Community Guidelines, which together form the whole agreement.

Enso is operated by Ashish, an individual carrying on business as a sole proprietor in Ontario, Canada. References to "Enso", "we" and "us" in these Terms mean Ashish in that capacity.

You may use Enso only if you are at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement. You may not use Enso if we have previously banned you or if using it would break any law that applies to you.

You can decline these Terms by not creating an account, or by deleting your account at any time. These documents are always available in the app under Settings, so you can review or save a copy whenever you want.

2. Your Account & Identity Verification

Enso is built on real identities. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate information about yourself, including your real name and date of birth.
  • Complete identity verification when required. Verification is handled by our provider (Stripe Identity) under a separate consent you give at that time.
  • Keep your account to yourself — no sharing, selling or transferring accounts, and no creating accounts for someone else.
  • Tell us promptly (via Settings → Support) if you believe your account has been compromised.

You are responsible for what happens through your account while it is under your control.

3. Enso Is a Platform, Not an Event Organizer

Enso lets people discover each other and organize their own gatherings ("Circles" and "Live Drops"). Events on Enso are created, hosted, and run by users — not by us.

Enso does not organize, sponsor, supervise, insure, or manage any event, does not inspect venues, and does not control who attends or what happens there. Verification and safety features (like identity checks and safety thresholds) are tools that reduce risk; they are not a guarantee about any person or event. Enso does not run background checks on users.

4. Assumption of Risk & Release

Meeting people from the internet in person carries inherent risks, including the risk of personal injury, property loss, and encounters with people who misrepresent themselves. By using Enso you accept that:

  • You attend and host events, and meet other users, voluntarily and at your own risk.
  • You are solely responsible for your own conduct, your own safety decisions, and your interactions with other users, both in the app and in person.
  • To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you release Enso, and you release event hosts and other attendees acting in that capacity, from claims arising out of your interactions with other users or your participation in events — except to the extent a claim results from that party’s own wrongful act.

This section does not release any person from liability for their own intentional misconduct, and it does not limit rights that the law does not allow to be limited. Please read our Safety Tips before meeting anyone in person.

5. Your Conduct & Your Content

You agree to follow the Community Guidelines in everything you do on Enso — profiles, messages, posts, stories, and events.

You own the content you share. So that the app can work, you grant Enso a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, and display your content within the Service, for as long as the content remains on the Service and as needed afterwards for backup, legal and safety purposes. This licence is only for operating, promoting within the app, and improving the Service — we do not sell your content.

You promise that you own or have the necessary rights to everything you post, and that it doesn’t violate anyone’s privacy, intellectual property, or other rights. We may remove content that violates these Terms or the Community Guidelines.

6. Events: Hosts & Attendees

If you host an event, you are the organizer, and you are responsible for it. Hosts agree to: comply with all applicable laws and venue rules (including Ontario liquor laws — the drinking age in Ontario is 19 — and any permits the event needs); take reasonable steps to make the event safe; accurately describe the event; and report serious incidents to Enso, and to the authorities where required.

If you attend an event, you agree to follow the host’s and venue’s reasonable rules, to behave in line with the Community Guidelines, and to report unsafe behaviour through the app.

Enso may remove events, restrict event features, or take other action where we believe an event poses a risk to users or violates these Terms.

7. Moderation & Termination

Enso uses human and automated moderation to keep the community safe. Reports, blocks, and confirmed guideline violations are recorded on your account and can limit features, or lead to suspension or permanent ban, including device-level bans for serious violations.

We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, the Community Guidelines, or the law, or where necessary to protect users or the Service. Where reasonable, we will tell you the general reason. You can delete your account at any time in Settings.

Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive (including licences already granted, assumption of risk and release, limitation of liability, and governing law) survive account closure.

8. Safety Features Are Aids, Not Guarantees

Features like identity verification, safety thresholds, event-address protection, and reporting exist to reduce risk — they cannot eliminate it. We do not promise that any user is who they claim to be, that any event is safe, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Always use your own judgment, and call 911 in an emergency — the app is never a substitute for emergency services.

9. Cost of the Service

Enso is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features, we will clearly disclose the price and terms before you buy anything, in accordance with Ontario consumer protection law, and paid features will have their own terms presented at purchase.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • Enso provides the Service "as is" and "as available", without warranties beyond those the law requires.
  • Enso is not liable for the conduct of any user, host, or attendee, online or offline, or for events created by users.
  • Enso is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, or loss of data, arising from your use of the Service.
  • For any claim Enso is liable for, our total liability is limited to the greater of CAD $100 and the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Important: nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, and nothing in these Terms limits or removes your rights under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act or other consumer protection laws that apply to you. Some of the limits above may not apply to you.

11. Responsibility for Your Breach

If your violation of these Terms or the law causes Enso loss — for example, a legal claim against us caused by content you had no right to post — you are responsible for that loss to the extent it was caused by your violation and to the extent permitted by applicable law.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app and ask you to review and accept the new version before continuing to use Enso. Each version has its own version number and effective date, and the version you accepted is recorded. If you do not agree to an updated version, you may decline by stopping use of the Service and deleting your account.

13. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes may be resolved in the courts of Ontario, and nothing in these Terms prevents you from bringing a claim in any court or tribunal that has jurisdiction (including Small Claims Court), from participating in a class proceeding, or from complaining to a regulator such as the Ontario Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
